Dear NOLA Mental Health Provider or Trainer
The UCLA Center on Research, Education, Training and Strategic
Communication on Minority Health Disparities is pleased to facilitate a
workshop for you on Motivational Interviewing. This work is part of our
past efforts with the Kellogg Foundation to provide mental health training
in order to increase mental health recovery. We have worked in NOLA since
2006 and have provided several other trainings such as CBT, PTSD,
Motivational Interviewing and Mental Health for Religious Leaders. We
will soon be distributing these via DVD and making them available on our
website for those interested. We are also completing a curriculum that
was pilot tested for working with religious leaders on mental health
preparedness and disaster recovery. You can request any of the mental
health trainings for mental health providers at the training on February
and we will send them to you as soon as they are ready for shipping.
We invite you to register for our current training on motivational
interviewing, which will be conducted by Dr. Stephen Shoptaw who is
Professor and Vice Chair of Family Medicine at the UCLA David Geffin
School of Medicine. He has a long history of deliverying substance abuse
interventions to diverse populations and directs a number of
community-based drug treatment programs.
The training will begin at 8:30 sharp with 8:00-8:30 pm allotted for
registration. The Louisiana Public Health Institute as a Co-Sponsor of
this workshop has kindly arranged for box lunches and the provision of CE
at no cost. Tulane University School of Social Work who is also a
Co-Sponsor is graciously providing space at the School of Social Work for
the training. This partnership is bringing the training and no cost CEU's
to you as a way of contributing to post disaster mental health recovery.
The procedure for the training as there will be limited spaces and those
spaces will be treated as first come first serve as we are limited to 75
spaces. You will be required to register with the UCLA Helping Hands
Healing Minds by sending the following information to Dr. Flora Krasnovsky
Flora M. Krasnovsky, Ph.D. <fkrasno at pacbell.net>
Your name, email and phone contact:
Your Agency Name and Address (include zipcode)
Your Discipline (Social Work, Psychiatry...)
Your License Number (If you want CEU's).
Dr. Krasnovsky will log these in as they come in via email until we reach
the limit in terms of spaces.
The public health institute also needs a count for food and preparation of
CEU's so they have also requested that you register or contact them. ALL
Spaces will need to be reserved through Dr. Krasnovsky as this information
is being sent to several sources for registration so we will maintain one
list, one count and one place for determination of official registration.
Location: Tulane School of Social Work (Room 103) at 6823 St. Charles Ave., Building 9
