The attendance could have been better for the information presented and the need. It would have greatly benefitted many of our young athletes, coaches, teachers, school nurses, pediatricians , SBHcs and parents as they addressed the problem of closed brain injury as a result of trauma. Additionally, there were many retired NFL Players in the audience who asked good questions and provided excellent information. I received feedback from many who attended and all were very positive. A few individuals said the promotional materials did not clearly communicate what the event would cover. I plan to contact Morehouse to give them my feedback. I think the venue also was not the best to get a lot of community involvement. They did pay for parking which was very helpful. A Healing Journey Through Louisiana's Coastal Parishes BY: ERIN M. DUGAN, PHD., LPC-S, REGISTERED PLAY THERAPIST SUPERIVSOR & ADRIANNE R. LOLAN, MHS, CRC, LPC, REGISTERED PLAY THERAPIST "Oh, The Gulf Coast We Know! A Healing Journey Through Louisiana's Coastal Parishes" tells the story of Otis, the Oyster, and Shelby, the Shrimp, who are worried about the affects of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill on their Louisiana coastal line. Otis and Shelby are wondering what to do when Stanley, the wise turtle, comes upon them as they are discussing their questions and worries. Stanley invites Otis and Shelby to hop aboard his boat and travel down the Louisiana coastal line to visit each parish that is dealing with the affects of the disaster. While they dock, Stanley teaches Otis and Shelby a coping skill to help them replace their questions and worries with a more appropriate choice. This child oriented book may be read by caregivers, teachers, and counselors to help children, students, and clients learn how to cope when questions and worries arise. The book provides a "Top 10" list of tips for children to utilize when they are feeling anxious, a caregiver/teacher guide to help kids identify and address questions that may arise due to the affects of natural and man-made disasters, and lastly, the a resource for caregivers and professionals working with children to increase their awareness of signs presenting in children who may require professional services and/or consultation.
